How the Educational Use License works

Students and faculty members at educational institutions can use Highcharts for free in educational projects such as coursework, assignments, and non-funded academic research. Administrative, operational, and commercially funded research are not included. Read our Educational License terms to see if you qualify.

Get help from our documentation and community

For educational use, help is available through our documentation, examples, and community forums. These resources cover common chart concepts, configuration options, and troubleshooting. Direct support is not included.

Commercial use requires a paid license

If you are using Highcharts in any company project, client work, internship work,
consulting engagement, or internal operations, you must purchase a Commercial License.

You can use Highcharts for free for educational purposes as long as the use is strictly non-commercial.

Educational use includes classroom teaching, coursework, student assignments, and non-funded academic research conducted at a school, college, or university. This use is covered by the Highcharts End User License Agreement.

Educational use does not include paid research, commercial projects, or operational use by an institution.

For educational use, you can use the full Highcharts product suite, including Highcharts Core, Stock, Maps, Gantt, and Dashboards.

You can download the software and use the same installation options as any other project, as long as the use remains educational and non-commercial. All usage is governed by the End User License Agreement.

Educational use does not cover:

  1. Commercial or for-profit projects

  2. Paid, sponsored, or industry-funded research

  3. Freelance, consulting, or contract work

  4. Use by administrative, marketing, or operational departments

  5. Any project intended for commercial distribution

If your use does not clearly qualify as educational and non-commercial, a commercial license is required. Contact our sales team for licensing options.

If your project transitions from educational or non-commercial use to commercial use, it is no longer covered under educational use.

To continue using Highcharts in compliance with the End User License Agreement, you will need to purchase a commercial license.

If you’re not a student or educator, you may still be able to use Highcharts for personal, non-commercial projects under the terms of the End User License Agreement.

Personal use is separate from educational use and is limited to non-commercial projects only.

Non-commercial use is defined in the End User License Agreement and generally means use that is not intended for commercial advantage or financial gain.
