Radial Chart


Radial charts are used to compare categorical data.
The demo below displays the total of Winter Olympics medals earned by the top 5 countries. The categories in this demo represent the countries as well as the three classes of Olympic medals.

Good to know

Pros:

  • The radial chart offers a clean estitic, and its compact shape makes the chart an excellent choice to fit into a dashboard and/or small screens.

Cons:

  • Due to the circular shape of the radial the scale gets distorted which could result in difficulty to compare the data. . Take caution to switch to a bar or a column chart if the scale is distorted and unable to illustrate the comparison.

Accessibility

The radial chart can be easily adapted to suit the color-blind community (see below), by either adding a pattern fill chart or a or a monochrome chart.
