What determines the distance between windbarbs

I use windbarbs in my charts - see image below - which works wonderfully well. But recently the distance between the windbarbs became 1 hour while it used to be 3 hours. I did not change anything in the charts but it might have been in one of the CDN library files of Highcharts which I use.


I always thought the distance was automatically determined so they would not overlap.
What does determine the distance between the barbs?
If there is more than one parameter what would be the best way to regulate this?
