Need help adding a different gallery on a different page

Hello All,

I have a working Highslide gallery on a site made with RapidWeaver here: http://www.thedavidcooper.com/drawings/index.html

It took me a while to figure it out as a complete newbie to coding, but with some incredible help and patience from RoadRash I got it done. My problem is that I'm afraid to break it now! I have two main issues:

- I'd like to add a different gallery on a different page (entitled "stills") and I'm not sure how to do it since I was only able to make the other gallery by using the editor (and some minor code adjustments after uploading through the editor).

- I'd like to match the same exact style and thumbnail size, but I don't recall my settings in the editor.

So, I'm not confident that I know the best way to do this and hope I can get a little help from the experts before I fumble around for days and screw it up. I found a few posts that kind of touched on the subject, but I still didn't completely understand the best method for my situation. Thanks in advance for the advice.

Hi,

In your highslide folder you have a file named editor-config.txt (http://www.thedavidcooper.com/highslide ... config.txt). This file contains the url to your custom settings in the Highslide Editor. This is the content of your editor-config.txt:

Code: Select all

Use this URL to reset the Editor to your settings:

http://highslide.com/editor/?config=%7B%22preset%22%3A+%22gallery-vertical-strip%22,+%22borderColor%22%3A+%22%23000000%22,+%22borderHoverColor%22%3A+%22%23FF0099%22,+%22borderActiveColor%22%3A+%22%23990000%22,+%22borderWidth%22%3A+%222%22,+%22thumbBoxWidth%22%3A+%22161%22,+%22thumbBoxHeight%22%3A+%22161%22,+%22thumbBoxBorderWidth%22%3A+%220%22,+%22thumbBoxMargin%22%3A+%220%22,+%22thumbBoxBorderColor%22%3A+%22%23000000%22,+%22thumbBoxBackground%22%3A+%22%23000000%22,+%22loadingStyle%22%3A+%22Black%3A+big+icon%22,+%22popupBackground%22%3A+%22%23111111%22,+%22contentBorderWidth%22%3A+0,+%22outlineWidth%22%3A+0,+%22outlineCornerRadius%22%3A+0,+%22dropShadowSize%22%3A+5,+%22applyDimming%22%3A+true,+%22dimmingOpacity%22%3A+%220.85%22,+%22hideThumbOnExpand%22%3A+false,+%22alignment%22%3A+%22center%22,+%22marginBottom%22%3A+70,+%22marginLeft%22%3A+100,+%22captionStyles%22%3A+%22%5Ctcolor%3A+%23FFFFFF;%5Ctfont-family%3A+sans-serif+!important;%5Cttext-align%3A+center;%5Ctpadding%3A+5px;%5Ctpadding-right%3A+0px;%5Ctpadding-bottom%3A+0px;%5Ctpadding-left%3A+0px;%22,+%22captionPosition%22%3A+%22below+outside%22,+%22showCredits%22%3A+false,+%22enableGallery%22%3A+true,+%22userdir%22%3A+%22b35763c5f587e15f3466bfce6e5b2307%22,+%22sorting%22%3A+[%22DavidCooperIllustration-100.jpg%22,+%22DavidCooperIllustration-101.jpg%22,+%22DavidCooperIllustration-102.jpg%22,+%22DavidCooperIllustration-103.jpg%22,+%22DavidCooperIllustration-104.jpg%22,+%22DavidCooperIllustration-105.jpg%22,+%22DavidCooperIllustration-106.jpg%22,+%22DavidCooperIllustration-107.jpg%22,+%22DavidCooperIllustration-204.jpg%22,+%22DavidCooperIllustration-108.jpg%22,+%22DavidCooperIllustration-109.jpg%22,+%22DavidCooperIllustration-110.jpg%22,+%22DavidCooperIllustration-111.jpg%22,+%22DavidCooperIllustration-205.jpg%22,+%22DavidCooperIllustration-112.jpg%22,+%22DavidCooperIllustration-113.jpg%22,+%22DavidCooperIllustration-114.jpg%22,+%22DavidCooperIllustration-115.jpg%22,+%22DavidCooperIllustration-201.jpg%22,+%22DavidCooperIllustration-116.jpg%22,+%22DavidCooperIllustration-202.jpg%22,+%22DavidCooperIllustration-117.jpg%22,+%22DavidCooperIllustration-118.jpg%22,+%22DavidCooperIllustration-119.jpg%22,+%22DavidCooperIllustration-120.jpg%22,+%22DavidCooperIllustration-121.jpg%22,+%22DavidCooperIllustration-122.jpg%22,+%22DavidCooperIllustration-123.jpg%22,+%22DavidCooperIllustration-124.jpg%22,+%22DavidCooperIllustration-125.jpg%22,+%22DavidCooperIllustration-126.jpg%22,+%22DavidCooperIllustration-127.jpg%22,+%22DavidCooperIllustration-206.jpg%22,+%22DavidCooperIllustration-128.jpg%22,+%22DavidCooperIllustration-129.jpg%22,+%22DavidCooperIllustration-130.jpg%22,+%22DavidCooperIllustration-131.jpg%22,+%22DavidCooperIllustration-132.jpg%22,+%22DavidCooperIllustration-133.jpg%22,+%22DavidCooperIllustration-134.jpg%22,+%22DavidCooperIllustration-135.jpg%22,+%22DavidCooperIllustration-207.jpg%22,+%22DavidCooperIllustration-136.jpg%22,+%22DavidCooperIllustration-137.jpg%22,+%22DavidCooperIllustration-138.jpg%22,+%22DavidCooperIllustration-139.jpg%22,+%22DavidCooperIllustration-140.jpg%22,+%22DavidCooperIllustration-208.jpg%22,+%22DavidCooperIllustration-141.jpg%22,+%22DavidCooperIllustration-142.jpg%22],+%22thumbWidth%22%3A+%22155%22,+%22thumbHeight%22%3A+%22155%22,+%22clipThumbs%22%3A+true,+%22largeWidth%22%3A+%221000%22,+%22largeHeight%22%3A+%22650%22,+%22controlsPreset%22%3A+%22large-dark%22,+%22controlsOffsetY%22%3A+%22-20%22,+%22buttonMove%22%3A+false,+%22buttonFullExpand%22%3A+false,+%22thumbstripMode%22%3A+%22vertical%22,+%22thumbstripPosition%22%3A+%22middle+left%22,+%22slideshowRepeat%22%3A+true,+%22htmlWidth%22%3A+%221000%22,+%22htmlPrevious%22%3A+true,+%22htmlNext%22%3A+true%7D
There seems to be a problem with loading of the settings in the Editor right now. Your images will be stored at the Highslide server for 30 days, and normally the settings will be loaded in the Editor without your images after this period of time. The settings will not load correctly from the url at the time being, so you need to remove the part of the link that referes to the images you've uploaded earlier.
I've done that for you - click this link to open the Highslide Editor with your settings: http://bit.ly/TfGSKa (give the browser some time to load and then click the ÔÇ£Get startedÔÇØ button).
Do not replace your existing highslide folder with the new highslide folder from the Editor when you download your new gallery, because I think youÔÇÖve done some changes to the js and CSS after you created your gallery earlier. Do only copy the HTML markup and the images folder.

Re: Need help adding a different gallery on a different page

Thanks again RR. I'm going to give it a try now.

The last time I used the editor to update that gallery was much more than 30 days ago. Could that be why the URL wasn't working for you?

Just in case you're online, I'm about to...

- use the editor to generate my HTML (with captions) for the new page
- copy the CSS from my old page to the new page
- download (NOT upload to FTP) the Highslide folder from the editor and then add the sized large and thumbs images to the existing Highslide>Images folder in my root

Does that sound right? I'm not good at this, but everything I know about this, you taught me!

Re: Need help adding a different gallery on a different page

So I was able to get the thumbnail gallery up successfully using your instructions (had to download Filezilla, which was new to me). But the slideshow won't launch when I click on a thumbnail. I do see the thumbstrip, but no large image. http://www.thedavidcooper.com/stills/index.html

The other gallery is still working for some reason though. http://www.thedavidcooper.com/drawings/index.html

I didn't change any Highslide files, and I copied the same HTML code into the header of the new page from the old (functional) page. I'm sure I missed a simple step, but can't figure it out.

You had the same problem the last time you created a gallery; itÔÇÖs a z-index issue in your theme, and you found how to solve it - see this post: http://www.highslide.com/forum/viewtopi ... 227#p69227

Well I'll be damned!

You're totally right. I had the same issue, but with a different website. I forgot I had rebuilt this website with the same template (FreeStacks for RW) that I learned to love with the other one.

I hope you're laughing at me more than you are disgusted with my utter incompetence.

Thanks again Hilde... the support is amazing as always. Best money I ever spent on software.

I'm doing none of these, actually. I couldn't give good support if I had such attitude to our users/customers. :)

Re: Need help adding a different gallery on a different page

I am trying to add a single image to my gallery and am trying to avoid redoing the whole gallery. Also, as I mentioned earlier in this topic, I'd like to keep the same style.

What I'm having trouble with is figuring out how Highslide allows for this to be done consistently and relatively easily... mainly because I can't seem to load my settings from the editor-config.txt file.

Here's the deal... I want to add one image (for example) to an existing gallery. This is something I will be doing every month or so as I display new work. So I'd like to figure out the workflow here, but I'm having trouble because I can't get my thumb and large image size settings to load in the editor. (I understand it may time out after 30 days).

The easiest way I can understand to do it would be to:

- manually enter the HTML code on my page for the new image
- manually place the thumb and large image in my Images folder

However, I've used the Highslide Editor to generate my 'thumb' and 'large' image files, and I can't get my settings to load from the editor-config.txt file. So I'm not sure what size to make my images or how critical their sizing is.

What is the recommendation for updating one's site like this every once in a while? There's got to be an easier way. While I've been very pleased with the product support here, the Editor just seems a little user-unfriendly. For all it's promise and all the great things it does, there's always some glitch that hangs me up for a day or two while trying to accomplish something basic.

Thanks in advance.

Re: Need help adding a different gallery on a different page

The images will be stored on our server for 30 days, but the custom configurations for the gallery was ment to still be valid after these 30 days. I found your editor-config.txt file in your highslide folder, and I can see that it doesnÔÇÖt work. I will ask Torstein, our developer, fix this as soon as possible. The case is that the images, which is deleted from our server, is included in the url and this is why the url doesn't work.

We can fix this for your url by manually remove the paths to the images:

Code: Select all

http://highslide.com/editor/?config=%7B%22preset%22%3A+%22gallery-vertical-strip%22,+%22borderColor%22%3A+%22%23000000%22,+%22borderHoverColor%22%3A+%22%23FF0099%22,+%22borderActiveColor%22%3A+%22%23990000%22,+%22borderWidth%22%3A+%222%22,+%22thumbBoxWidth%22%3A+%22161%22,+%22thumbBoxHeight%22%3A+%22161%22,+%22thumbBoxBorderWidth%22%3A+%220%22,+%22thumbBoxMargin%22%3A+%220%22,+%22thumbBoxBorderColor%22%3A+%22%23000000%22,+%22thumbBoxBackground%22%3A+%22%23000000%22,+%22loadingStyle%22%3A+%22Black%3A+big+icon%22,+%22popupBackground%22%3A+%22%23111111%22,+%22contentBorderWidth%22%3A+0,+%22outlineWidth%22%3A+0,+%22outlineCornerRadius%22%3A+0,+%22dropShadowSize%22%3A+5,+%22applyDimming%22%3A+true,+%22dimmingOpacity%22%3A+%220.85%22,+%22hideThumbOnExpand%22%3A+false,+%22alignment%22%3A+%22center%22,+%22marginBottom%22%3A+70,+%22marginLeft%22%3A+100,+%22captionStyles%22%3A+%22%5Ctcolor%3A+%23FFFFFF;%5Ctfont-family%3A+sans-serif+!important;%5Cttext-align%3A+center;%5Ctpadding%3A+5px;%5Ctpadding-right%3A+0px;%5Ctpadding-bottom%3A+0px;%5Ctpadding-left%3A+0px;%22,+%22captionPosition%22%3A+%22below+outside%22,+%22showCredits%22%3A+false,+%22enableGallery%22%3A+true,+%22thumbWidth%22%3A+%22155%22,+%22thumbHeight%22%3A+%22155%22,+%22clipThumbs%22%3A+true,+%22largeWidth%22%3A+%221000%22,+%22largeHeight%22%3A+%22650%22,+%22controlsPreset%22%3A+%22large-dark%22,+%22controlsOffsetY%22%3A+%22-20%22,+%22buttonMove%22%3A+false,+%22buttonFullExpand%22%3A+false,+%22thumbstripMode%22%3A+%22vertical%22,+%22thumbstripPosition%22%3A+%22middle+left%22,+%22slideshowRepeat%22%3A+true,+%22htmlWidth%22%3A+%221000%22,+%22htmlPrevious%22%3A+true,+%22htmlNext%22%3A+true%7D
Now you can use this url to open the Editor with your custom configurations, upload your new image(s), download and
